Frequently Asked Questions

Summa’s Approach

  • Summa is a physician-led preventative health and diagnostics clinic that specializes in men. We take an evidence-based approach, using advanced diagnostics to perform a 360-degree analysis, and deliver sustainable solutions, including testosterone replacement therapy, GLP-1s and other peptides, in addition to help with stress, skin care and more. Our mission is to help men slow the aging process and get more out of life.

  • Summa’s approach involves a detailed assessment of the whole person. In addition to advanced hormone testing, we test for body composition, stress response and more. Achieving optimal health means looking at the whole person—using advanced testing and designing safe, individualized solutions to address the symptoms of midlife—low testosterone, weight gain, poor sleep and stress—in a cohesive, medically grounded way.

  • Summa is a physician-led clinic. The medical team is led by Dr. Julie Hong, a Calgary physician with over two decades of experience and advanced training in longevity medicine. She is certified by the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), with specialized expertise in neurology, cardiology, peptides, and hormones.

how it works

  • First we invite you in for a testing in our state-of-the-art private lab. The testing includes a comprehensive blood test and body composition analysis, as well as in depth questionnaires to help us understand your overall physical and emotional health. Members will also have access to VO2 Max testing and strength testing once these services are available in early 2026.

After the diagnostics are complete, your results will be analyzed by our clinicians, and 1-2 weeks later you will visit with our medical director to receive your treatment plan. If you are prescribed testosterone replacement therapy, you will have the option of receiving injections in clinic at no cost or we can supply self-injection kits if you prefer. We also offer at-home diagnostics or injections by a nurse, for an extra fee.

We will get you back in for further testing to check your progress at three- six and 12 months, and make adjustments to the treatment protocol as required.

  • If any concerning findings arise, a Summa physician will contact you promptly to explain your results in clear, straightforward terms. Our team will walk you through what the results mean, outline your options, and ensure you understand the path forward.

When additional care is needed, we coordinate referrals to leading specialists—locally or abroad—and remain involved to support you through every step of your next phase of care.

  • Not at all. Summa is a health optimization clinic. That means we look at the whole person and recommend solutions that fit each individual’s unique biology and life circumstance. In some cases, low testosterone can be managed with improved sleep, or changes to diet and lifestyle. We offer alternative treatments to balance hormone levels and we give you a range of options to optimize your wellbeing.
